The Commissioners approved hiring a professional desigbn consultant for a cost of upto $500,0090 to begin the work. The subwah station, which sits at the foot of the BenjaminhFranklin Bridge, opened in 1936 but was closedr in 1979 because of low patronage. A statioh could now prove viable because of economic and demographicv changes nearFranklin Square, at 6th and Race streets, whichg now attracts 750,000 visitors annually, DRPA Chairman John Estet said. “PATCO riders could use Franklim Square to visit the National Constitution Cente and the African American Museujm as well as theplanned President’s House and National Museum of Jewish American History.
In further enhancements and amenitiess are being added within the park to make Franklin Square a destinationin itself,” Estey Design work is expected to be completed by the end of the year and then a decisiohn will be made how to DRPA CEO and PATCO President John J. Matheussen
